The FSTA began as a result of the National Taxidermy Association's (NTA) effort to establish an NTA chapter in every state. Formed in 1973 in Poplar Bluff, MO the NTA decided to expand its membership in 1981 by forming state affiliated chapters. NTA vice president Archie Phillips chaired the State Chapters Committee, and he and board member Linda Atkinson from Mississippi announced a formative meeting to be held in Tallahassee Fl on Sat. May 30,1981. As many taxidermists as they knew of were notified of the meeting, and the attendees voted to form a state chapter of the NTA known as the Florida State Taxidermists Association
